The 8th Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition was launched in style in the Royal Irish Academy of Music on December 15th last by Arts Minister Heather Humphreys.

Irish competitors present for the lunchtime event included Patrick Hyland, Rachel Croash, Rory Musgrave, Sarah Richmond, Aoife Gibney and Maria McGrann, as well as sponsors and organisers, including long time supporter of VDISC, Margaret Quigley.

The minister paid a generous tribute to Ronnie, who responded in characteristic style! There too was Competition chairman Diarmuid Hegarty and, reflecting our exciting new collaboration with Wexford Festival Opera, WFO chairman Ger Lawlor.

Imelda Drumm -ably accompanied by our own Dearbhla Collins- thrilled the gathering with Saint Saens' 'Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix' and 'Va, laisse cooler med larmes' from Werther by Massenet.

With the competition now well and truly launched, roll on January 22nd!!
