We always recommend attending one of our live auditions (find out when and where our live auditions take place), however, if you cannot make any of the dates we do accept YouTube/Vimeo links of your audition. The video applications must have been made within one year of the date submitted (verified by a timestamp on the video), and include two contrasting arias lasting no longer than 10 minutes.

The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition has an audition round in Autumn 2024 and then 4 rounds in the actual competition in Dublin in January 2025.

You need 8 operatic arias (2 for each of the 4 rounds). In the Final, your third aria may be a repetition from a previous round. For the Semi-final round, you can fill out your programme with either more arias or with songs/oratorio.

Yes. The audition round in autumn is a stepping stone to being accepted into the actual competition in January. You need to sing 2 arias in the audition round and these 2 arias can be repeated in any round you choose in the actual competition.

Yes you can. If you reach the final, you can repeat one aria in this round that you have sung in one of the first 3 rounds. Read our rules for more information.

The semi final is your opportunity to show your individuality as an artist. Songs are often a good way to do this, but no you do not have to sing one. What is important is that you build an interesting 20 minute programme to show the jury your artistry.

Yes. You will have a short rehearsal scheduled for you on the evening of Wednesday 22nd / morning of Thursday 23rd January 2025. You will have the chance  to go through your arias for the first round and the second round in this rehearsal.

Yes. The first three rounds of the competition happen without any time in between, so the opportunity for feedback with the jury will be on Monday January 27th. This feedback will be available to all competitors except the 6 finalists who will still have to sing in the Final. (Informal feedback for the six finalists may be given by the jury after the final).

For international competitors that require somewhere to stay, we offer free accommodation in private ‘host homes’ for the duration of your participation in the Competition. Our generous hosts offer an authentic Irish experience and are all long term supporters of the competition. Alternatively, there are many hotels and B&Bs found in Dublin city centre at reasonable rates.
